SHAZIA (New York, NY)
Like Cecily, I have known Shazia since the very awkward and embarrassing years of early high school. It was a relief, then, to know I already had a friend living in New York when I moved here last year. We always joke about how, when someone asks how New York is, and how much fun we should be having, that really, all we do is what we would've done back home. Snack at home while watching Titanic on TNT. And now, I leave it to Shazia to give us a glimpse of her New Yawkin' life (which, like I said, really just consists of lounging and good eats!).
Hello, internet! It’s going on three years since I’ve left Los Angeles for New York. Vivian and I agree that the move has been one of the most polarizing experiences in our lives so far. The city basically brings two definable, emotional states: happiness (brunch! art! brunch!) or stress (subway, “how do I walk all these groceries home, subway”, waiting, dis’ rent too damn high, waiting, subway). I never thought I’d say I left my heart somewhere (except in the ‘da club, obviously), but Los Angeles has never had to fight for mine. Even so, since New York has lured me into its concrete jungle, I will not rest until Vivian and I have eaten every croissant, beignet, pizza slice and Santino to make it to Bryant Park Fashion Week with Tim Gunn.
I think my clothing choices have reflected my views toward the city. Some days I feel that I dress better than others, some days I feel that idgaf, but every day I know that comfort is always key because no matter what, there will be lots walking involved. No matter what, nothing can beat a well-built pair of walking shoes and a comfy, fall cardigan. I finished my master’s in international politics in May and am currently work at a publishing house in midtown. We’ll see what the future brings. Until then, brunch!
#1: Cas day in the office requires a cas hands-in-my-pockets attitude, obvi!
