EMILY (Torrance, CA)
Emily was one of my first friends when I joined my college radio station, KUCI, in Irvine. We shared a love of everything Swedish, cardigans and sweaters, and cute Swedish boys wearing cardigans and sweaters. Her knowledge and interest in the most adorable indie-pop music rivals the most die-hard pop fan you know. I'm sorry, that's just fact. Another fact: girls from Torrance are the bee's knees! I should know...
And now, before my bragging gets too embarrassing for you dear reader, I leave it to my pal Emily to redeem this blog!
Hi there. I'm super pleased to contribute to this project. These days have been weird for me in that I have an abundance of free time and can basically do whatever I want. I am so not used to that. I work from home for a small transcription company that primarily focuses on academic transcription. I get to work at my own pace and depending on the workload, I may have an entire week free or an entire week holed up in my room. Luckily it's been manageable and I've been having a lot of fun. This hedonistic lifestyle gets tiring though, so I've also been thinking about returning to the affordable housing field. Business casual outfits may or may not have something to do with that.
As much as I enjoy getting dressed each day, I'm afraid I don't really know who's who or what's the haps in the fashion world today. And that's okay! That suits me fine. What is important to me is just looking put together and presentable. I'm not big on looks that are too out there (nothing wrong with out there, to each her own), and my belief is that "modest is hottest" when it comes to style. Unsurprisingly, my favorite article of clothing is the sweater.
Here are some things I wore in a week:
Monday

t-shirt: Stephen Steinbrink's Next New Sun tour / jean jacket: Gap / pants: H&M / sneakers: Asics

Easing into the week in comfort after a pretty potent weekend. Had a doctor's appointment in the morning, did some work in the afternoon, and then went to a totally cozy Irvine house show at night. Total relax.
Tuesday

blouse: thrifted / linen shorts: Gap / belt: from mom idk / loafers: grandma's (don't be grossed out, they skipped a generation)

I caught the Torrance Farmers Market in the morning and then spent the rest of the day hanging with an old friend whom I hadn't seen in months. We watched Midnight in Paris and the film was cute and all with the cameos, but I literally clutched my polyester-covered chest when Gad Elmaleh showed up on screen. I first saw him Hors de prix with Audrey Tatou and fell for the sometimesprettycreepylooking dreamboat. Anyway, the point of this story is that I scored some sweet things today. My friend gave me the cutest scarf (it has punctuation marks and letters and symbols and etc. on it!) and then I swung by Stein Mart on the way home and found a pair of shoes on sale. People often rip on Stein Mart, saying that it's a store for moms and old ladies. I say WHATEVER, that just leaves more stylish/borderline geriatric shoes for me.

shoes: Impo / scarf: second-hand gift!

Met up for lunch with my brother today. It's always deceptively overcast in the mornings and then suddenly the sun races out from behind the clouds on its motorcycle, pops a flaming wheelie, and then laughs in my face while I'm forced to take off my sweater.
Thursday/Friday
Nothing to show for these days.Thursday and Friday were work days for me; this means I spent them sitting in front of my computer in boxers. I didn't realize it at the time, but I was transcribing interviews involving children while being pretty much pantsless. Updating your resume in your pajamas is always humbling as well. To my credit, I later forced myself into sweatpants (like that is any better) and out of the house to get some exercise.

Again with the "it is cool when I leave the house in the morning but then it jumps up 20 degrees" weather. I got to wear these new geriatric puppies out. I spent the day in LA running a couple of errands. I had been meaning to check out Wombleton Records in Highland Park for a while, but just never got around to it. Holy cow, I have seen the light. It's a tiny used record shop but their selection is amazing. So many gems. So, so many gems. I knew it was meant 2 be when the storekeeper (dreamily clad in all black) put on The Wake. I bought several records and then hurried home to get on a bus to go see Rodrigo y Gabriela at the Hollywood Bowl! My sweater came in handy at night.

I love the details on these wedges. The peep-toe level is enough to be playful, but not enough to actually peep a toe and be gross. Plus those stitches! That braiding along the bottom! Too cute.
I ate lunch at a little Szechuan restaurant and there was this one insanely spicy dish that was just like, 50% chili oil and Szechuan peppers. I very nearly spilled bright red chili oil all over this dress. And with that enthralling story, I end this post. Thanks for letting me share my week with you!
Snacks. I never said I was sophisticated.
My Wombleton finds! I cried a little inside when I spotted that Marine Girls record.
