socks with sandals?

I have always thought wearing socks with sandals veered towards 1. touristy-looking; 2. lolita-esque.
My friend Katie T. pointed out that the model in the APC lookbook of my previous entry did it quite well and I would have to agree.
Chloë Sevigny was spotted at Coachella this weekend also sporting the socks with sandals look.
Thoughts on how she does it?
