mad men

I am obsessed with the show "Mad Men" and I am seriously counting down the days until the season 3 premiere.
It's almost silly to make a post of the fashions seen on this show, so instead I am giving you something else.
In anticipation/because I'm a nerd, I made my own "Mad Men" figure, courtesy of AMC.

bright star

"Bright Star" is a romantic drama based on the three-year long romance between 19th century poet John Keats (Ben Whishaw) and Fanny Brawne (Abbie Cornish). It is directed by Oscar winner Jane Campion. This movie first premiered at Cannes in May and is going to be playing in limited release starting September 18th.

This trailer is kind of the worst though, especially with that corny narrator. But oh well, I'm a sucker for period films, unrequited love, and English accents.

But in all seriousness, can we just admire how pretty Ben Whishaw is please? That hair...

it's the heat talking, i swear!

Dear readers,
You know that I rarely venture out of the house wearing shorts--or a shirt/pant combo for that matter! I live in dresses and skirts almost every day. Well, yesterday was the day that I finally wore shorts (The last time I wore shorts was when I was visiting Italy in August last year). You see, the office building I work in is very very old. We are on the 9th floor (out of 10, I think), and the weather has been crazy hot. Also, the AC stopped working.

Yep, it was hotter than anything. And with 6 laptops and 6 people in a tiny room, you can bet that room gets super hot in no time. So you see, I had no choice but to wear something really summery. Granted, I could have worn a dress, but I did want to try to wear something that I could really only wear around this time of year.

Will you still love me tomorrow?

the oc fair

I did something very quintessentially Summer, something very Americana, last Friday, guys. I went to the fair. Well, the OC Fair to be more specific. So I guess, not as Americana as I had hoped...But regardless! I ate deep-fried foods (oreos! mmm), walked around creepy carnival rides, watched a sad 20 minutes of dueling pianos, and of course, was amused by Weird Al's 3-D Brain movie, with its bevy of celebrity cameos.

I got there too late, though, to pet baby animals and eat my fair share of all things carnival-y. Next year, OC Fair. Next year!

On to a few more pictures:
Me and my bbgurl Emily in front of "Moscow Circus" (or is it 'cus?), this creepy "fun" house.

Kyle and Erin: Husky Dawgz or newly recruited cult members?

In front of one of the many "haunted" house rides with my friend Shazia:

And what kind of a blogger would I be if I didn't include an actual outfit picture?

music and fashion together, again

No Age and Vivian Girls
Sebastian Kim of New York Times, takes a bunch of artists from this year's Coachella, dresses them in expensive duds, and photographs them in this black and white editorial.

All the artists (except for Robert Smith and The Moz) are wearing fancy schmancy apparel, like Friendly Fires in the newest Opening Ceremony collection.

So for those who were always wondering what a fashion spread with Gang Gang Dance and Public Enemy would look like can stop wondering now.

throwin' a bone.

My friend Sam pointed out that I post a lot of pictures of really pretty girls and it dawned on me that I should post some pictures of stylish boyz as well!

So this one is for those looking for some boy eye-candy. This is taken from Stockholm Street Style--but I can't remember if this particular lad was Swedish or not. For those who know me, I know..."I would." I can't help but love tall, lanky boys with tousled hair and leather jackets.

day 2 of hot weather.

Guys, it's really, really hot here in Southern California. What's worse is the air conditioning barely works in the old office building where I intern. A small office room with 8 laptops (and 8 people) create a lot of heat. It's death, basically.

Here is what I wore one of these hot days. I don't think I've worn this dress since last year, which is a pity because I adore the simplicity of it. And plus, I got it for $8 at the AA warehouse sale!

Shoe details: I have a habit of wearing these shoes when it rains (England, Hong Kong) and because it's suede...well, you've seen that Seinfeld episode.

Trying to wean myself from my Ray-Ban wayfarers that are clearly made for men. This is a happy medium.

Leather brown patches hold up bungee cord-esque black bands. Who said you can't mix black and brown?!

Anyway, last time I wore this, the weather was cold and (almost) rainy. What a change. I'd rather have the coldness, of course!

emma watson is everywhere

So "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" is coming out tonight (technically tomorrow morning) in theaters. DanRad, Rupert (<33) and Emma have been hitting all the late night shows, photo calls, and magazines. Emma has truly blossomed into a stylish lady in her own right. So, I thought that there isn't a better time to showcase some of Emma's personal style and some fantastic editorial spreads then right now.

The pictures above are some of my favorite ones from Emma in Teen Vogue. I love how lush everything looks in that editorial.

Below, some more magazine scans and irl photos of her at different events.

Pictures from around the Internet. Thanks Internet!
P.S. This post is dedicated to Kyle, who appreciates Emma not only for her fine acting but for her fine...ness.

OK, P.P.S.
I hope you'll still be my e-friend after seeing this, but I thought...well, this is probably the only appropriate time to post this picture of me:

i live in a new construction home

Yesterday, I went to see Dirty Projectors play to a sold out show at the Troubadour. I've seen them a few times before in the past, and I have not yet been disappointed. They're just a fantastic live band, whether it's Dave Longstreth with a rotating group of musicians, or the quintet we see today.

What's Up, from Portland, opened and they were also pretty good. They sound like a less-heavy version of Giraffes? Giraffes! (I tried to avoid the term "math rock" and this is what it leads me to).

So, while milling around the merch booth after the show, I happened to see Alia Shawkat (Maebe from "Arrested Development"--MARRY ME!) and Adam Goldberg (who looked like he did in "2 Days in Paris"). One of my friends swore this dude in a bucket hat was Avey Tare (of Animal Collective), who looked a lot different from what I remembered. Not that I have a mind-storage of Avey Tare images.

Anyway, here is an official video Dirty P's did for "Stillness is the Move." This song freaking blows my mind every time. Check out the ladies' jumpsuits! Also, doesn't Dave Longstreth look like a convincing llama herder?

They sold $5 tote bags. I promised myself I wouldn't buy any more tote bags because I seriously have a problem. BUT THEY WERE $5--WHAT COULD I HAVE DONE? NOT BUY ONE???

milla and sasha in vogue italia

With temperatures rising this week, I'm already looking forward fall. Sure, I haven't really busted out my summer outfits yet, but boy, boots and coats never looked so great.

All photos shot by Ellen von Unwerth for Vogue Italia. Milla Jovovich and Sasha Pivovarova are flawlessssss and pretty sexy. I'm glad Milla is modeling again!

Because I couldn't help myself, here are all the scans, courtesy of Diciassette over at the Fashion Spot.
