A week with Tim

My younger brother came to visit me in New York for a week, which is one reason why this blog has been quiet (again). I did force him to take photos for an outfit post for me, so that will be up soon! For now, here are some photos of our (sometimes touristy) adventures!

New Romantics

Been really feeling this editorial from Vogue Australia lately. Perhaps it's because I've been yearning for more pastels in my life and wish it was spring weather (tired of this coooold rain). Anyway, nothing more to add so please enjoy the pretty.

Fall 2012: Derek Lam, Elizabeth and James, Erdem, Jil Sander, Karen Walker, Theyskens' Theory

My new computer does not have Windows Picture It!, this sorta-Photoshop program that I use to make Fashion Week collages. I tried to download it (they stopped the program after Vista, damn you Vista!) and after that failed, tried to make collages in Picnik. It looks...okay but I have no idea how to make it visibly pretty, etc. And with so much frustration and anger taken out on technology, I gave up on writing anything about each collection. All I'll say is: look at me favoring collars, menswear, minimalist, patterns, sheer + leather.

Li'l Sebastian forever

I wore this outfit to the Whitney on a Friday "pay what you will" day a few weeks ago (I TOLD YOU I WAS BEHIND). I had planned an amazing story to tell you about this outfit but I am at a loss right now. I'll just say that any day I can wear my Lil Sebastian shirt is a good day. Coupled with an excuse to wear leather again and some good art at a museum with friends, and I couldn't ask for anything better.

Outfit details: Lil Sebastian shirt courtesy of Joyce via Universal Experience Store | skirt: H&M | tights: Uniqlo | wool cardigan: Heritage 1981 via F21 | booties: Sam Edelman | necklace: via Brooklyn Flea Market

Whoops!

Remember that time I used to regularly update this blog? My laptop died, my motivation waned, my thesis prevailed...deadly combination that almost killed my blog. I still haven't slogged through the millions of images from the various Fashion Weeks yet, that is how far behind I am (but we can talk about Raf Simons/Jil Sander if you want because HOLY COW was that beautiful!).

Anyway, I pushed myself to start taking outfit photos again when the sun was shining, so in the next week or so, expect a few more outfit posts. NEVER FEAR. Never fear. I wore this outfit on one of those 55F days because what?! How did it get so warm? I mean, not complaining as it was an excuse to break out my new (cropped, slightly slouchy) parka and wear it with the sleeves rolled up like the COOLEST PERSON EVER, but still. Okay "winter".

Outfit details: Daniel Johnston t-shirt | silk shorts: Pinky Otto | cropped parka and tights: Uniqlo | smoking slippers: Bass

Fall 2012: Rachel Comey, Steven Alan, Honor, rag&bone, Suno

Rachel Comey
It is probably obvious by these looks (and the ones in the collections below) that I'm really hankering for 1. a nice tuxedo-inspired jacket; 2. a clean, minimalist coat. I am still kicking myself over the fact that I didn't buy a wool coat in a slate grey that hit all the clean, minimalist points I was going for at Uniqlo. WHY DIDN'T I???? Anyway, these ones are nice.

Rachel Comey F/W 2012
Steven Alan
This collection is nothing new--none of Alan's stuff is especially groundbreaking--but it doesn't make it any less covetable. And sometimes, isn't that really what you just want in life? Lots of secretary/private-school inspired stuff with socks and loafers, jumpers, and cute jackets. Just everything I love for the every day in the Fall.
Steven Alan F/W 2012
Honor
Sheer dresses in dark florals and tuxedo short-suits: it's everything twee and great but heightened in a formal setting.
Honor F/W 2012
rag&bone
I could probably learn a thing or two from layering here but at the same time it looks like there's just TOO MUCH happening. The all-over floral look (seen in other collections like Jason Wu) is what cinched (PUN INTENDED) the deal for me here.
Rag&Bone F/W 2012
Suno
Keywords: floral, all-over floral, flower print. Now that we got that out of the way, can we talk about the expert mixing of patterns and my love for sweaters over dresses in this collection? I usually do a cropped sweater over a dress but this is like, a formal gown almost. Oh man, if only I could pull that off.

Marni x H&M

Now that everyone has taken everything I wanted from the Jason Wu x Target line ("We probably won't restock...ever" as one Target staff said to me yesterday), it is time to look forward to forget the past.

Here is a new Sofia Coppola-directed video for Marni's collaboration for H&M. Knowing how crazy New Yorkers get, H&Ms will be swamped when the collection launches. I won't be holding my breath like I was for Target but at least the video is pretty!

Grandpa pants

I remember buying these high-waist denim trousers a year ago and everyone who was with me said "Okay, but they're unflattering." And then I realized I kind of don't care what does/doesn't look good on me.They're comfortable, they're fun(ny), and I can tuck a kid's size tee-shirt into them with no problem. Plus, sometimes I don't want to wear my black skinny jeans.

A note of apology: posting may be a bit spotty for the next couple of months. Girl's gotta hunker down and churn out two theses. Grad school is sometimes hell, I tell ya.

Outfit details: shirt: St. James x crewcuts | trousers: Cooperative via UO | anchor socks: TopShop | suede loafers: Old Navy | belt: Zara | tulip watch: Fred Flare | necklace: via Etsy

A weeklong outfit

Guys, I'm going to admit something kind of gross and you can't judge me but if you do, it also doesn't matter. I have worn this outfit--with different shoes, different outside layers--for four days straight. One, because I realized how nice and put together and warm this outfit is. Two, because I hung out with different people every day in those 4 days. I, sadly, won't be able to wear this outfit tomorrow because my boss will recognize it but it was a good run. Instead of showing you the different outside layers (wool cardigans over my sweater, camel wool coat, red down coat, different scarves, a bow in my hair, brown booties, black booties, suede oxfords), here is the "base" outfit. I can assure you I take showers!

Outfit details: sweater: I <3 Ronson | chambray button-up tunic underneath: CottonOn | jeans: Uniqlo | booties: Joe Fresh | necklace: via Brooklyn Flea

Current/Elliott Spring/Summer 2012

I'm counting my blessings that it's in the mid-40s today which is considerably "warm" for a New York winter (oh hi, I'm back!). However, I know by late February/early March, I'll be looking forward to spring again. This lookbook by Current/Elliott however is making me yearn for spring a lot earlier than usual...Calling for a girl gang to dress up and look cute with me. Thanks.
