jump for joy!

I just came back from a fantastic little trip to Austin where I did everything I had wanted to do (eating lots of Mexican food and BBQ, crafting and thrifting, playing with cats, and being a Pawnee Goddess with three amazing ladies). Here is an outfit that Tricia lovingly photographed for me on her porch one of the very short 3 days I was there (Thanks girl!). Some photos from my trip will be posted soon. I may even do two posts since I have a roll of film that I haven't finished up yet!

Defaulting for Fall

I haven't really taken any new outfit photos since I usually just wear a button up with a sweater and some trousers/jeans. This outfit is no exception. I love the little gold polka dots peeking through my sweater. It's like a little surprise!

Also, not sure if you can really see it in these photos (what's up bedhead), but I bit the bullet and got my bangs trimmed. TOOOOO tired of growing them out and having to pin them back.

Music Overload, part 2.

I have an outfit post queued up but before that, here are the final two pieces I wrote for CMJ. It was quite an exhausting week but a lot of fun! It did take me a few days to recover but now I'm ready to be all ~social~ and proactive. I'm actually going to Austin to visit Joyce, Tricia, and Carly for Halloween. On a scale of one to "I'm Nathan and I like to Dance," I am a "KIDZ BOP SINCE U BEEN GONE."

Upward and on!

CMJ 2011, or "Music Overload"

Sorry it's been so quiet here lately. I've been covering the CMJ music festival this week (two more days, I can do this!), and dividing my day at work, school, and at least 2 shows a day + writing it up, I. AM. EXHAUSTED. I think the bags under my eyes need their own zip code. Although I am complaining, it really is a lot of fun. I get to see a lot of bands I have wanted to see (Wild Flag, Dum Dum Girls), and some old favorites that I got to see again (Metronomy, and tonight: Purity Ring, Islands).

Here are the first three days of coverage, if you're interested in all that:

Frumpy sweater, don't care!

I'm not going to apologize for the lolsy poses anymore because it's getting redundant/ridiculous. You're just going to have to ~let me be me~ as they say. Although this sweater is really unflattering, it's so warm and wintery that I don't even care that it's not giving me the best possible shape ever. It's not like anyone is really going to judge me as I sit at work, eating cookies and drinking tea while I proofread an article about feminism in politics and comedy (Yeah, sometimes my job is great).

Also I turn to you fashionable ladies and gents for a very IMPORTANT question. I've been growing out my bangs, as you can see, but I'm not sure if I should keep growing them out or cut them. And if I do cut them, side-swept or blunt cut? So many decisions...

Flannel 4 Alwayz

Since we are such good friends who don't judge each other, let me tell you about my morning of FAIL. I got dressed (+1) but then spent 2 hours on the computer instead of taking advantage of my morning energy and run errands (-1). When I finally loped out of my apartment to do the four (just 4!) errands in Chinatown, I was only able to do one (mailing Carly her dress). The other three (buy more craft supplies, get batteries replaced in three of my watches, buy succulents for my room) were never reached (-1).

Granted, I forgot to bring the watches with me (-1), it started raining and I didn't want to walk the mile to the craft store in the rain (-1), and the succulents were more expensive than I had imagined ($12/each). So instead, I bought lunch and boba even though I was planning on cooking at home to save money (-1), ate, and then the Internet went out (-1) so I wrote a little and then took a nap (+1). All in all, Vivian: -3. Oh well. I promise, though, that this evening will be better. I have dinner plans with a friend before going to this and then rushing off to my seminar class where we will be discussing Phillip Roth's Goodbye, Columbus. And if all of that falls apart as well, at least I got to bust out my flannel!

Outfit details: flannel dress: Uniqlo | cardigan and tights: Target | suede oxfords: Old Navy (surprisingly!) | necklace: gift from Cecily

Future twins

Carly and I will be outfit twins soon enough when she gets this same "tunic" in the mail. The last couple of days has been balls hot but now it's cooling down again. I wore this to work today (although I will neither confirm nor deny the fact that I may have worn this yesterday with different shoes...) and it's just crazy comfortable. I love how sturdy and thick the cotton is and--although you can't see it in this one photo--the shift-dress silhouette is always irresistible. Same goes for stripes, obviously.

Also I apologize for the lols pose. I always think I can fit my hand inside my jean pocket but alas, it is only wishful thinking. Also for the weird paper mess on the ground. I had to conceal some arts and crafts materials lest my craft partner sees what I'm up to!

Sweater weather

I have been on a (sweater) warpath recently, and all I want is to grab all the sweaters as I can in every neutral shade under the sun. They must be over-sized so I can attempt to layer and hide all (food) sins. You will probably see this sweater too many times (it's already appeared once), but once I find a new favorite outfit (looking for some nice dresses but totally failing!), I am living and breathing with this for the fall. By the way, isn't it wonderful how crisp and cool it is right now in New York? It will definitely be a brief love affair as, by November, it'll get too chilly for me to traipse in just a sweater, but for now, I am enjoying the sweet sweet sweater weather.
