Defaulting for Fall

Also, not sure if you can really see it in these photos (what's up bedhead), but I bit the bullet and got my bangs trimmed. TOOOOO tired of growing them out and having to pin them back.

Music Overload, part 2.
I have an outfit post queued up but before that, here are the final two pieces I wrote for CMJ. It was quite an exhausting week but a lot of fun! It did take me a few days to recover but now I'm ready to be all ~social~ and proactive. I'm actually going to Austin to visit Joyce, Tricia, and Carly for Halloween. On a scale of one to "I'm Nathan and I like to Dance," I am a "KIDZ BOP SINCE U BEEN GONE."
Upward and on!

CMJ 2011, or "Music Overload"
Sorry it's been so quiet here lately. I've been covering the CMJ music festival this week (two more days, I can do this!), and dividing my day at work, school, and at least 2 shows a day + writing it up, I. AM. EXHAUSTED. I think the bags under my eyes need their own zip code. Although I am complaining, it really is a lot of fun. I get to see a lot of bands I have wanted to see (Wild Flag, Dum Dum Girls), and some old favorites that I got to see again (Metronomy, and tonight: Purity Ring, Islands).
Here are the first three days of coverage, if you're interested in all that:

Eleanor Friedberger and Wild Flag at the Bowery Ballroom

Zola Jesus and Clap Your Hands Say Yeah at Ace Hotel

Dum Dum Girls at Ace Hotel | Metronomy at Music Hall of Williamsburg
Wild Flag photo and Dum Dum Girls video shot by me. All other photos by Emily Malan

Future twins
Carly and I will be outfit twins soon enough when she gets this same "tunic" in the mail. The last couple of days has been balls hot but now it's cooling down again. I wore this to work today (although I will neither confirm nor deny the fact that I may have worn this yesterday with different shoes...) and it's just crazy comfortable. I love how sturdy and thick the cotton is and--although you can't see it in this one photo--the shift-dress silhouette is always irresistible. Same goes for stripes, obviously.
Also I apologize for the lols pose. I always think I can fit my hand inside my jean pocket but alas, it is only wishful thinking. Also for the weird paper mess on the ground. I had to conceal some arts and crafts materials lest my craft partner sees what I'm up to!

Outfit details: dress: Uniqlo | jean jacket: Rodarte x Target | tights: Target | shoes: Sam Edelman (I swear I wear other shoes too) | necklace: gift from Cecily
Sweater weather

Outfit details: duffel coat: boutique from Hong Kong | sweater and purse: Zara | button-up (underneath): F21 | black skinnies: Uniqlo | shoes: Sam Edelman | necklace: via Brooklyn Flea
OMG: Jason Wu for Target

“My collection for Target embodies my signature aesthetic of feminine sophistication, with a mischievous nod to the 1960s,” said Jason Wu. “I’ve had an incredible experience partnering with Target and I am looking forward to bringing these affordable designs to women across the country.”
Get it February 5 through March 6, 2012. Happy Valentine's Day to me.
